A Special Soul

A Special Soul

Winter wouldn’t leave although its time had come to go; wherever you looked " all you saw was more snow.

The flowers were restless " waiting to start; the north-bound birds sat impatiently checking their thermal chart. “What happened, why must we wait?  How come this year, spring’s so late?”

The Angel in Charge of Seasons heard every word spoken or thought by each flower and bird. He checked his list and he checked it twice; his reflection puzzled up at him from the gleaming ice.

What’s missing, he wondered as he looked all around " only things of winter covered the ground. No cheery sound, no sweet scent " only stillness and chill " a feeling like waiting for something missing still.

A weak dabble of soft sunlight fell through stark branches dark as inky midnight bringing a small image of a newly-fledged soul. The Keeper of Seasons all at once began the answer to know " there was one more thing he yet must do.

That newly-fledged soul must join this world too and take its place on earth; only then could spring begin the process of rebirth.

The Keeper of Seasons cast his vision near and far, from cloud to ground and finally to a nearby star.  There on that star was that special soul waiting for direction as to where she should go.

The Keeper of Seasons rose in the air, ascending quickly through the stratosphere. “Debbie, dear child, you’re needed down here.  Come with me quickly and bring you love and cheer.  Your Mom, Dad and sister and all the earth too are waiting for spring to start and that’s your job to do.”

Debbie snuggled into the Keeper of Seasons’ outstretched arms allowing herself to be carried from the star to the world below, there to warm the world with her love and her glow " smiling and chasing winter from the earth and in joining her family caused spring to start its rebirth.

The waiting flowers, the delayed bird; the butterfly and bee " all things part of spring were now free. The air was filled with laughter and love all because of this special little girl and her gift of love.
