Monsters of Old

Monsters of Old

A Poem by Calvin Warden II

The monsters that keep me awake
Are memories of you
Always fighting to keep the pain away
Not knowing what to do
Protecting you the only way I know
As I walk next to you
But you never even noticed me
Never even had a clue
Ignoring me was so easy those days
Never thinking of us two
But now I've gone and turned away
It was the only thing to do
I'm still searching for something real
And you, something new
But the worse thing keeping me awake
And you know it's true
Is not a memory but something else
I'll never stop loving you
