The Lonesome King

The Lonesome King

A Poem by Calvin Warden II

The minstrel plays his best tunes
And the jester tells his best jokes
Still the king does not smile.
The knights protect the land
And the peasants toil in field
Still the king was pondering.
The wizards performed his magic
And the alchemist mixes a potion
Still the king doesn't notice.
The rogue is plundering the treasure
And the bar room is a total brawl
Still the king remains unaware.
The guilds men practice their craft
And the merchants sell their wares
Still the king always feels alone.
The kingdom has lasting peace
And all within praise his rule
Still the king searches for queen.
The passage of time marches on
And yet my heart remains pure
Still the king... Still I sit alone.
