SABER-RATTLING

SABER-RATTLING

A Poem by Dryford Chimutu
"

In this poem the speaker lampoons fellow alumnus for his nuclear weapons saber-rattling and warmongering.

"
The impassioned oration is bloated
As apace dawdle pufferies ‘gainst eld
Behold how time iludes, perfidious!
When it was ripe and plentiful
Whilst all and sundry drew up;
Readying for now;
I was there when you eluded the rant
For believing in you like I used to
Of gravitas your lip daringly uttered
Yet now;
When I ought to trust you more;
You merely rave and rabbit-on
When you ought to sober-rattle
And live praxis, usance
You’ve only known to saber-rattle
And with eld
Your lip has only flab gotten on ruses
Licentiate, stop saber-rattling.
