MY CHAPERONE AND ME

MY CHAPERONE AND ME

A Poem by Dryford Chimutu
"

In this poem the speaker rebukes another person for their bad conduct.

"
Concerning HRM:
We don’t seem to talk more anymore
Nor in concert, spend the time leisurely
Very much unlike we used to;
For we have none for all these
Nor do we have the nerve at that:
Whilst in lieu
Even with the aversion amidst us
All we do for now is chide, and chide
We chide not because we resent you
But for you wander away from civil compulsions:
Strolling away like you do always; aimlessly,
Fancying, toying with all your naive nerves
And settle for all that which is empty
We chide you further for all our fixes
Of which you always seek out and
long to take advantage of; scorning us
As if to say to slip-up isn’t next only to piousness
And all that which knows no morals; spiritless
We chide you also for the lumber in your eye
While you oft make mention of the speck in ours
And chastise us as if my chaperone and me
were merely low-priced nuggets
It is for all these vices of you that
My chaperone and me will always chide you.
