Gas

Gas

A Story by DRIVEN

Why is it that the gas pumps seem to be working so quickly these days??? I mean, like when you are putting the gas in your car and you look up and in 10 seconds it registers $25, and you think "how did that happen?"

I hate putting gas in my car.  Using the last $20 dollars I had for food so that I can go to work and make more money to feed this hungry beast. I see the looks on other peoples faces as they throw their money into their cars, kind of resigned and indifferent.  I wonder if they are thinking what I am thinking, how can I keep doing this?? And, where has all the money in my account gone?  Can I write a check on Monday for a deposit that won't happen until Thursday??? It's not getting easier.

My boss doesn't care.  He took away our bonuses cause he can't afford to pay them.  That hurts.  At the same time he knows we aren't walking away from the job, there isn't anywhere else to go.  A second job is on the horizon, funny but now I need it just to make the ends meet that used to.

Maybe I should move to the city and ride my bike. I see lots of people doing that.  But then, what does it cost to move?  Can I pay my landlord the last rent and the next landlord 2 months rent (1 for security).

I feel stuck. There is no easy answer but I'm trying. I wonder if a change in government will really make a difference?  Does someone out there care that we are slowly being strangled to death?  I'm not whining, not complaining, just hoping that minimum wage and the cost of a gallon of gas are not soon one and the same.

Seems it use to be you bought gas to go to work~

now you go to work so you can buy gas~ Does that

make any sense? I suppose not~ nothing seems to make sense with

these run-a-way sky-high prices we have to pay just to get by day by day~

Well DonE!~Fran Marie

You certainly put your frustration into words that we can relate to. I'm not much of an essayist but your brevity is refreshing and you express yourself very well. Most of the reviews state that they understand your feelings. I certainly do. But I'm always reminded that, historically, the wealthy 10% are lifted on the shoulders of the hard-working, ill-rewarded 90%.

Yeah things are pretty much the same on my side of the big puddle. Well keep on writing and hope somebody notices you one day.

I can almost hear the "60 minutes" clock ticking after you write this. Andy Rooney will never die as long as there are people out there who are angered by the situations of modern life. My one comment on the writing itself though is that excessive punctuation, for me at least, does not emphasize as well as good phrasing does.

I hear you on this one. No pay increases at work or else only a cost of living 3% increase while the cost of groceries/rent/gas are increasing exponentially which actually equals a pay cut. I am not optimistic that a change in government will really help but I hope on hope that it does.

I'm pretty sure a change in government will make difference. It's just us little folks who are hurting, you know. The oil companies are reporting record profits. I try to stay away from politics on this site, but the message should be clear.
