Chapter 6

Carried out my serious attitude of cleaning-up was the best method to vent my rage.  I wanted to oblivion unfortunate for an instance.

Scrubbedsweptmoppedbrushed.

Almost everything that supposed to be worked during the weekends was done. I felt miserably exhausted after finished up all by myself and had depleted the energy I had for today.

I lay on the couch tiredly and in a sudden my cellphone message tone rang.

A message was from Jasper.

Ray, are you free tonight? Ive got the voucher from Crabby Night Restaurant. I know that restaurant was your favorite. Waiting for you reply, Jasper.

I do not care what, where, why, when, how anymore. I’m glad that we’d got the chance to talk, all by ourselves.

‘Okay. Meet you there at 7p.m’

I replied and went for a bath. I wore a dress, which had gifted from my dad at my sixteenth birthday, and left a note for my dad arbitrarily on the coffee table.

I saw Jasper sitting at the edge corner of the restaurant, which was the place we have our dinner together last year. It was the perfect night I’d ever had since the day my mom left. Jasper brought me to this restaurant whenever he got the fifty percent discount vouchers. The most unique part of this restaurant was the restaurant built up beside the beach. I enjoyed the view at night beside the restaurant because it allowed me to see shiny bright stars on the sky.

“Hi.” I walked over and stood beside Jasper. I noticed that he was wearing a white t-shirt either but also with his favorite leather black jacket. Evidently, Jasper had been well prepared for tonight’s dinner. What I also did found out was Jasper did managed to get his hair took care of. Fortunately, I did not haphazardly dress up with a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. It’ll make it less special or probably ruined the whole atmosphere of the entire dinner.

“Hi, Ray…you look beautiful tonight.” He smiled when he noticed I’m wearing a dress.

“Only tonight?” I grinned.

“Oh, no. I mean tonight you looked even special.” He smiled happily.

“Because I’m wearing a dress.” When he heard what I said, he grinned.

“Maybe” he laughed, “Please have a sit my beautiful young lady.” A waiter pulled the chair, which located at the opposite of Jasper.

“Me? Oh, Thanks.” I nodded and sat down. The waiter smiled. “I’ll come take order in a minute.”

“So, what kind of dishes you want, tonight?” He gave me the menu

“Emm, I’ll have what I had last time but this time I would like to have Tarantula Juice as my beverage. Thank you.” I handed him the menu and grinned.

“Okay, then I’ll order the same as yours.” As the waiter approach, Jasper ordered our dinner and the waiter walked off with an insidious smile.

“The waiter looks weird.” I said. Meanwhile my gaze was still on the waiter.

“Ray…” The way he entitled my name made my agonized rose. I gazed at him and frowned.

“Jasper, don’t ruin it.” I reminded him and he nodded.

“Well, do you mind walking with me at the beach later?” I nodded lightly as he asked.

Jasper and I did not talk much during the dinner but we did enjoy the atmosphere around us. We smiled awkwardly when we met our gaze. After the dishes, I took off my shoes and walked beside Jasper at the beach. We’re all in silent for a while and he stopped and turned to me…

“Ray, you know we’re not supposed to be like that.” Jasper was right, we’re not and I nodded but I kept on walking and kicked the sand repetitively.

“I know you and Amanda had a big misunderstanding but I just want to clarify that.” I nodded again.

“She was trying to help me, it wasn’t her fault. I know you’re mad at me because of the party but I texted you once she told me about the invitation cards, and were all sent out.” I nodded continuously.

“Jasper, I wanted to apologies for my.... personal attitude about today, and that’s the reason why I was here. I lost my tempered, and I know I shouldn’t. Amanda was trying to help. I know you need some kind of serious damn ‘goodbye’ to your friends.” He nodded. “And I know that you will tolerate my impulsive, and I know you’ll give me chance to apologies.” He shook his head this time.

“I’m not giving you a chance to apologize, all I want is you to give me chance to apologize.”

“I don’t understand.” I frowned and looked at him.

“I know that I was being too close with Amanda recently and I might have neglected you when I was with her. She was so into me and I don’t even know how should i deny her thoughtfulness which I don’t want to hurt her.” He looked at me and then gazed towards the sea. I didn’t say a word as I sat down onto the soft white sand beneath my leg and wait till him to speak up again. He sat down right beside and patted his pants slightly to cast off the sand.

“Can we assume there’s nothing happen?” He asked but he did not turned to me. He turned to me when he realized I shook my head.

“Jasper, there’s something happen. I can’t assume that there’s nothing happen at all. Friendship is not always that perfect right? Somebody told me once. Friendship should have some arguments, which would only constitute into an eternity friendship.” I looked at him and nodded.

“You’re right. You’re always right.” He laughed. I felt much more comfortable when I heard his laughter.

“So, are you coming to the party?” Jasper asked.

“Probably… no.” I looked away shamefully.

“Why? I thought we’re…?” Jasper looked sadly.

“I’ll be out of town next weekend, with my father. To visit my grandmother, she’s sick.” I lied about the sickness of my grandmother.

“Oh, is she okay?” I nodded when he asked.

“So, I guess I can’t see you at the party then.” He looked sadly.

“Ya, I think so.” I really wish I could be there but since I made a lie, there’s a lie.

He pulled my hand up, and stood straight up.

“Come, Ray.”“What are you doing?” I asked as he took a courteous bow and his hand remained outstretched imperiously.

“May I have this dance, Ms. Campbell?”

“Jasper, you know I don’t dance.” I refused.

“Raven, do this for me once. Please.” He looked down and I took a moment of hesitation. Finally, I landed my hand on his warm burning hand. I guess he was doing the first time as well. He looked happy and nervous once he felt my hand fell on his palm. He straightened his body and held one of my hands on his warmth hand and he lifted the other hand of himself and landed on my waist. He pulled me closer to his body as we started dancing, but we remained the same place where we stood initially. His head lay on my shoulder in a sudden. I didn’t push him away because I was shocked and had been frightened by his initiative.

“I’m tired, Ray.” He continued lying on my shoulder.

“What happen?” He pulled me even closer and tighter.

“Shhh, don’t talk. Just stay like that till I let you off.” I kept myself in silent. I lay my head on his shoulder after a moment. We were both ‘dancing’ gracefully for a long long time. How much I wished that moment could be able to pause, even for just a second. Yet, I never felt protective was that close to me. Jasper gave me a lot of things that I lack and therefore desire to have in my life. I began to realize that Jasper was the guy I would claim for my entire life. The feeling of mine for him started to become unconscious. I could hardly distinguish what form feeling I felt for him…

He interrupted my thought when he moved and his head left my shoulder.

“Thanks Ray.” He released my hand and turned over to the sea.

“You’re welcome. Better?”

“Much better now. I have something for you.” He put his hand into his jacket and took something out of it.

“Give me your hand.” He said and I lifted my hand to him. It’s a necklace. It’s beautiful. There was a vintage lock pendant with unique carving all around the necklace and with three sparkling diamonds on it.

“It’s so beautiful...” I swore I was deeply attracted by the pendant.

“Yea, I bought this long ago. I kept it and waiting for the perfect moment to give you. I know you would like it.” Jasper smiled and looked at me.

“Thanks, I like it. I guess this will be the last present from you.” I smirked.

“No, it was just a…present from me. It won’t be last. I promise.” He looked sad.

“Hey, but where’s the key?” I pointed at the lock on my necklace.

“Good question. I have it.” He smiled again.

“What? Where?” I frowned. He went to his neck. He then pulled out a necklace. It was a special key, which I had never seen before.

“Wow” I grinned.

“It means something to me, but I won’t tell you right now.” He grinned.

“Okay then, I’ll wait for you. Thanks for your present, a lot.” I smiled and walked towards to the parking lots.

“Yea, sure.” He noticed the time was late, and he followed to the parking lots. He sent me straight back home and he smiled widely as he knew we were back to normal.  I smiled to him because I really think tonight mean something to me, and the feeling of Jasper to me…unconsciously emerged…
