Hero to VillainA Poem by Twelve Steps to ZeroInspired by longs hours of Skyrim, and written for the Poetic Poems contest. Image from Prince of Persia, another inspiration.
I was once a hero, born of the Light,
Loved by the people as the scourge of the Night. I travelled the land and swung my sword Through legions of darkness till they were no more. Justice given form was I, I had courage beyond most Men, The evil which crossed my path, it never stirred again. Orcs and goblins, creatures of the night, They fled from me - the Warrior of Light. But too many caves I journeyed into, Too many tomes I seized and read, From the evil dead. Until I was broken, Until I left the Light and embraced the Dark instead. I was broken, but I found myself anew, Reflected in a thousand shards of glass Of the mirror that was once my mind. And so Light's hero became Champion of the Dark. Alas! You know what they say; Stare into the abyss too long, and you will - Oh wait, another child I must kill!
