No Mans Land

No Mans Land

A Poem by Sarah Jane

I hold my heart close these days
Handcuffed it to my wrist
Forbidden it from flying away so soon
Only to fade into mornings mist
I've held it close for fear of loss
My poor heart cannot take much more
But my bitterness seems to cease for you
And so under this breath I swore
Horiible as I may be or feel
I cannot help but admire his way
Pulled from a fairytale he seems
Hence the reason I write today
But I'll hold my heart just a little longer
Before I give it all to a man
So that peace of mind might find me
Before the darkness can
