Through Child's Eyes

Through Child's Eyes

A Poem by Sarah Jane

I didn’t see it, through child’s eyes,

The quiet love you'd always show,

How time with us was joy to you,

A truth I'd only later know

Time revealed what I’d ignored, The silent toll you bore in vain, She cast you slowly as the foe, But your kindness would remain.

On that last night, as shadows fell, And darkness wrapped you in its fold, I wonder now if loving us Was the price that left you in the cold.

Was that sacrifice worth the cost?
I’d give so much to ask you now
A life you might have claimed and kept,
If fate had spared you, somehow

My brother, too, with blind eyes,

Forgot the time you gave us then,

He "did right" by you, one last time,

By leaving you alone again.
