Relearning Religion

Relearning Religion

A Poem by Sarah Jane

I was raised in catholic Sunday school
But those lessons never followed me home

Scriptures became stories,
Fairy tales to the faithless

My life lacked the luxury of a powerful presence
Short of the one made one flesh and bones.

I was more familiar with the tellings of hell
Than I was with the safe haven of heaven.
