Tarweed

Tarweed

A Poem by Sarah Jane

Endangered
You are rare, underappreciated, overlooked
Ripped from pretty gardens for looking dull
For smelling foul
For being different, but not different enough.
Sticky
You are overwhelming, consuming, difficult
Placed behind wire fences for safe distance
For lingering
For permeating without consent.
Resilient
You are deep-rooted, intuitive, instinctual
Approached as a weed for your ability to survive
For your strength.
For your resolve.
