Sleeping with Dogs

Sleeping with Dogs

A Poem by Sarah Jane

I see you're eyes moving
Deep inside the depths of your lids
Fluttering to some image you see
Tell me boy, what do you see?

Water waves beneath us
I'm not capable to sleep this late
My touch makes you pull away
So I find comfort in sleeping dogs

I can still hear you moving about
The subtle snores you keep
I mutter peace to my new companion
As he mutters fear of sleep

The chill of the room sets in
No matter the layers I wear
I envy your heated water
But don't dare to wake you now

Alas! he awakens
Smiling like the lit rain
He welcomes me back to the water
I felt more welcome by the dog

What did you see boy?
Tell me, what did you dream?
