Match me Sidney!

Match me Sidney!

A Poem by John Butler
"

Burt Lancaster...we miss you still!

"

'Match me Sidney'! - no one matched you
Sweet Gaelic lilt and eyes so blue
Athletic prowess, fluid with ease
Big Top flyer on the great trapeze!

I loved your smile - like sun's reflection
Your golden voice, such pure inflection
It was unique, a vocal fragrance
The pitch and tone was honeyed cadence

Screen idol looks - an acting master
Go on our hero! Burt Lancaster
That great physique, primed you fired it
Your swaggered moves, our crimson pirate
I loved your films, you held my soul
'We're going to Texas to live it bold'!

You were our hero - now sadly gone
'If it's a fight you want then bring it on'!
Fatso backed down, we knew he would
He faced the wrath of real manhood

That golden age, when men were men
We will never see your likes again
Sweet Gaelic lilt, those eyes so blue

'Match me Sidney' - no one matched you!

Burt Lancaster 1913 -1994 always remembered!

I enjoy a good read, lighthearted and humourous mostly. Inspired by: Con Houlihan one of Ireland's legendary writers! He was a great sportswriter and enhanced his writing with an eloquence of.. more..
