Shadow Dancer

Shadow Dancer

A Poem by John Butler
"

A young woman reflects on the child she once was, wishing she could roll back the years and rescue herself!

"
Solitary child
Quarantined
Isolated
Friendless!

Time moved
Silently on
Leaving those lonely days
In its distant wake

Many times
You would look back
Through the portal
Of tear filled eyes

At the child you once were
Dancing with your shadow
Embracing the hurt
As you waltzed alone

Even now
You still reach out!
An outstretched hand

As if you could reach
Through time
Tenderly caress that child
Pour molten love upon her

But you can only watch
Even as your shadow
Watches with you

Faithful companion
Your shadow's vigil
Shadow dancing
Dancing still!
