The RescueA Poem by John ButlerA desperado makes a desperate race against time to save his young bride from the hangmans noose! Will he save her life? Read on and find out!
The Hangman hurled the deadly rope
O'er the bough of an old oak tree Glanced at the sky at the dawn of the day Heavy of heart was he! The cries of the mob was a deafening din! Though some shed a tear that were young Looked at the rope and the length of the drop Then looked at the girl to be hung The young girl glanced at the bluest of sky Sixteen if she was a day Then looked at the rope that was placed on her neck For a soul she would never betray Then out of a clearing a horse galloped hard And shots rang loud from a height! Daring and bold as he grabbed a hold Of his bride on his furious flight She glanced up above at the bluest of sky Then once at the old oak tree Then clung to her love as they galloped away To a life in the land of the free! © 2015 John Butler |
