Jill: “What’s your favorite part of the day?”

Jack: “Dawn.”

Jill: “Ah, yes, the hope of a new beginning.”

Jack: “No, the daily dread of the unknown.”

.   .   .

Jill: “ ... Dread? That makes no sense.”

Jack: “It does, if it gets me through to the evening unscathed.”

Jill: “What happens in the evening?”

Jack: “A feeling of relief that nothing dreadful happened.”

.   .   .

Jill: “So, why isn’t evening your favorite part of the day?”

Jack: “Because dread lasts the whole day. Relief is fleeting.”

Jill: “But, surely relief is preferable to dread.”

Jack: “Dread is relief, if what you dread hasn’t happened yet.”
