Jill: “Kissing is kind of an odd thing, don’t ya think?”

Jack: “Never thought of it that way, Whadda ya mean?”

Jill: “For example, you’d never share the same bowl of soup with a date, but you might let him kiss you goodnight on the doorstep.”

.   .   .

Jack laughs: “You’re right. It is odd, when you think of it that way.”

Jill: “And, why lips? Why not, say, press thumbs, or ears?”

“Eskimos rub noses,” Jack says. “Early explorers dubbed it Eskimo Kissing.”

Jill: “Yeah, see. They had the good sense to know noses were more hygienic.”

.   .   .

Jack: “More practical, actually, because when sweethearts met outside, all bundled up against the cold, only their noses and eyes were exposed.”

Jill: “How is it you know so much about Eskimo Kissing, pal?”

Jack: “Shared me a bowl of whale chowder with an Eskimo sweetie once.”
