Jill: “Ever wonder what people are thinking about you?”

Jack: “Yeah, and all-too-often I obsessively take it to the next step.”

Jill: “The next step?”

Jack: “Wondering if they’re thinking about what I’m thinking about them.”

.   .   .

Jill chuckles. “Reminds me of what Regina Brett, the author and columnist wrote.”

Jack: “The one that goes something like, ‘What other people think of us is none of our business’?”

Jill: “Yes. Makes you wonder how anything ever gets done, what with all our wondering.”

.   .   .

Jack: “I suppose it stems from our vanity’s puffed-up need to be liked.”

Jill nods: “And our ego’s perpetual need for optimum cloud positioning.”

Jack: “ … Huh?”

Jill: “Floating on a white puffy one beats heck outa shambling under a dark one.”
