A Mini-Play: All an Act?A Stage Play by Dylan Macadham3-Act Play in 12 LinesJill: “Are you different with different people?” Jack: “No, not really. I think
my act is pretty consistent.” Jill: “Your act, Jack?” Jack: “Yes. Affable, witty, chill is what I try to
project. How am I doing?” . . . “Fine, until now.” Jill
spikes her eyebrows: “It’s all an … act?!” Jack: “ … Well, sure. Isn’t
your sweet, empathetic and inquisitive
an act?” Jill: “No! It’s who I am. … And thanks, by the way.” Jack: “Then, why'd you ask if
I’m different with different people. Are you?” . . . Jill: “I’m different variations
of myself, sure, but I’m always myself.” Jack: “How is a variation different from an act? Doesn’t each require inner direction?” Jill: “No. … I don’t think so.
It’s unconscious, automatic.” Jack: “So’s my act, more and more. I guess we become our act, huh?” . . . © 2021 Dylan Macadham |
