A Mini-Play: The Devil Says ...A Stage Play by Dylan Macadham3-Act Play in 12 LinesJack: “Have you ever wrestled
with your conscience, Jill?” Jill: “Of course, everyone
has. Why?” Jack: “I found six $100 bills
in the cash take-out slot of my bank’s ATM yesterday.” Jill: “Whoa! What did you do?” . . . Jack: “I stood there, staring
at it, while the devil in me debated the angel in me.” Jill: “Kinda like in the cartoons, huh? One on each shoulder.” Jack: “Yeah, kinda. The Angel said, ‘Hurry outside and return it to the lady who just left,’ and the Devil said,‘Stay put Jackie boy. It’s on her to come back for it, not on you to chase her.’” . . . Jill: She leans forward. “What
did you do?” Jack: I chased her, feeling like quite the lad, and got myself a mediocre ‘thank
you.’” Jill: “Bummer. But, I’m proud of you! You know you did the right thing, right?” Jack: He sighs: “I’ll let you
know, pal. My demons and angels are still arguing it.” . . . © 2021 Dylan Macadham |
