A Mini-Play: Breach of Contract!

3-Act Play in 12 Lines

 

Jill: “Life’s funny.”

Jack: “How so?”

Jill: “Like the way we all greet a co-worker with, Good morning, how are you?”

Jack: He does a slow nod. “And the way we all reply, Good, how are you?”

.   .   .

Jill: “To which we counter-reply, Good!”

Jack: “And we all do it all over again the next day.”

Jill: She nods. “Then we all start grumbling about something that sucks. It’s so hypocritical!”

Jack: It’s the Social Contract. Break it at your peril.”

.   .   .

Jill: “I did that once. I replied, Effing lousy, how are you?”

Jack: “What was the response?”

Jill: “Me effing too! Then I had to listen to a 20-minute diatribe on his wife.”

Jack: He laughs. “Breach of Contract. Served you right, pal!”
