IcarusA Poem by DMCMaster550The name says it all. If you know the myth of Icarus than you know what this poem is about.Father and son imprisoned in the Labyrinth, Imprisoned here by the mighty King whom the father built this place, No way out, Through the waters and on the land, There’s only danger waiting for them, Imprisoned they are it’s impossible to escape. Daedalus the great craftsman and most skillful artificer, Crafts for he and his young son Icarus, Pair of wings that promise them escape, Made of wax and feather, Weak wings whose wax melts if too close to the sun, Weak wings whose feathers sodden if too close to the sea. Before the flight of Icarus, The father he warns his son, That flight too close to the sun/or flight too close to the sea, Would destroy the wings and bring Icarus to his demise. Not heeding the warnings of the great craftsman father, Icarus becomes overwhelmed by the sublime feel of flight, He flies on his wing higher and higher, The wings feel the touch of the sun, And soon the wax gives way melting, Flapping he can’t save himself for he no longer has the wings, He falls to his death, In what would later be named the Now his father escaped safely away, Sits on a stone as the day breaks, His son forever gone, Overcome by the power of flight, Ultimately brought himself down, Like all overwhelmed with power, His young foolish son, Let it control his head and left him self for dead.
