Beating…the pounding of my heart filled my ears as I gazed blankly at the smashed spider. Its tiny legs trembling as it raised its head, defiant, un-accepting of its fate. The head lowered as its final struggles ceased, its movements quieting, succumbing as it stilled.
Like the spider, my situation was similar. Above ragged breathing, I could feel, I could hear the once steady heartbeat slowing as it pumped the poison through the veins of my seven year old body. It was painful…my chest it hurt, I couldn’t breathe, where was the air? Darkness enveloped my vision, death.
