Something Surprising!A Story by Deepika Vijaywargia
The door bell rang, I rubbing my eyes, looking outside my window, was getting sure that it still is night, at the confirmation came another ring, this time I cursed the people who must be outside and the bell rings again.
I pulled myself out from the "night love" of an 8 hours sift person who was just done with his shift, I meant the bed. I wore my slippers after a difficult time searching for it in the dark. Lately, I remembered I can switch on the lights, this time the door knocked, with loud murmurs, and there I stood near my bed, without my glasses '" , waiting to get to the door, just after I could switch on the lights in my room. Finally got my spectacle from the top of my side table and the lights were on now! The first thing I did after I switched on the lights was to look at the clock ' and still I stood, wondering and amused thinking who could be there out, at 11:30pm in the night? By the way, I'm Ayaan, I stay in London, it's been 7 years I left India and my family and friends for a living, abroad. My house is a duplex and I was a good tenant I assume, I rented the ground floor. My owners were out for a few days so I was the only person living in the house. Oops sorry! I live with my partner, my dog, Barney, He's a partner in crime and has been with me for a while now. So I have been out all day and the house is a mess right now, because few hours ago before my shift I had a little party with my dog. 😅 And the dogs you know right, they help you get all mad and love to be in the dirt you spill around. The door knocked louder this time. I was a little bit scared now. But not sure if I needed a knife before I could open the door or the whole luggage packed. Because either it could be someone, like a psycho killer or the owners of the house! Both equally dangerous. I tip toeing my feet gathered courage to lead towards the end of the room and head outside near the main door.🚪 And now there were no longer any murmurs and no knocks on the door. I waited near my room's door, to get assured the person who's been impatient had left, it's been 10 minutes and there was no sign that spelled someone out there. So I turned around to lead back to my bed, and then..... Happened both the knocking and the door bell !! I was jolted awake now with the sudden change in the atmosphere of silence to loud and back to scary! I took a minute to explain it to me that I'm still alive and was seen by my dog, I kicking myself out from the shock. I angrily took my foot forward to the door and quietly sneaked into a prayer and pulled out the latches from the top one by one. There was no magic eye on the door which made me more eager to get the only way between the outside people who are now going to be dead, for making me awake at this time and scaring me and also playing with me. ' All the latches were pulled out, Barney was ready to pounce at the criminal who just killed my sleep. I, out of the emotional flow made a cry as I pulled the door wide open. *Aaaaah!!!😧* And suddenly I busted in tears, and held back Barney, so he let them be there on the other side of the door. "I cried like a little baby."😭 all I could tell at that point in time was "OMG, seriously you? " What I saw made me feel all the best emotions a human can feel: happy, sad, jolted, guilt, blessed, relaxed, puzzled....... It goes on. Nothing on earth can be compared to the feeling when you see a bunch of long lost friends that stayed not just states but countries away! Yes. My friends from college stood there, knocking out, murmuring and almost killing me with the door bell and the thoughts it led to. "What the hell are you all, doing here?" I shouted in love and excitement. "Who the hell cries on his birthday, London men do?" they cross questioned. "Birthday!?" I was astonished at their expressions and I could just sit there on my knees and look at their beautiful faces that were now slightly changed but their love was just upgraded with more love. Yes. Oh, damn! It's post 12am, guys! Said one among the 4 friends, who flew all the way from India to meet their friend(Me) and greet him on his birthday! "happy Birthday to you, happy Birthday to you, happy.... Birt..hh... birth.... Birthday dear Aayan", and they all carried the oceans of emotions in their eyes and just could sniff and sing to the birthday boy! After the song I hugged them all, individual and then of course a group hug was compulsory. I then invited them in, felt a little embarrassed looking around the house that seemed messy like a teenager's room. But looking at my friends the look they gave, the wink they shared was enough to let me feel comfortable in my own house now.. They cut the cake, gifts were opened, love was showered from people back home and memories were made and recollected. ✨ Ayaan could not believe, his friends just were here for his birthday, he merrily looked at them and felt blessed and cursed himself to keep them waiting for so long. "I love you, all" all these years, I spent my birthday in office working, you guys made me feel back home! Couldn't thank enough but I'm so happy that you are all here now. "We love you too Ayaan", they sang in a rhythm which made all to giggle with a little shower pouring down the love rain. Even though you earn alot riches say money, the riches that have been once made and carried on until the end say friends outbeats it, without quest! "Agar Dil me pyar ho, toh koi doori, door nahi. Agar koi khaas ho, usko jataadena, uske liye yeh humari ek zindigi bhi Kaafi, nahi.
