The Haunted FishermenA Poem by DEAN FARNELL
I was on my hols in a Cornish town in Looe to be exact
I saw a local public house and said i'd like a bit of that The bar was full of fishermen singing merrily What happened next was something weird, and forever will haunt me. I downed a jug of English ale and a tot or two of rum It was only when i turned around my nightmare had begun The fishermen had disappeared, i swear to you it's true The barman who had served my rum had also vanished too. The quietness was creepy which stopped at 3 0 clock I rushed out from the bar room as i was deep in shock I asked a lonely fisherman who was sitting on the quay Is this for real ? Have i gone mad ? or is it only me ? He told me 30 fishermen and crew were lost at sea They have the bar all to themselves around the time of 3 To disturb them is an insult as their souls are deep in song It was at this time in 1910 that everything went wrong. They met their doom, hit by waves 100 feet in size The legends told they sang a song when they met their sad demise Its every day they drown their sorrow with a ghostly sing a long Forever haunted are the souls who stop them while in song. I left the town of Cornwall with memories of that bar I wonder if the legends true and I'm haunted from a far The song they sang still echoes, from that little bar in Looe I'll keep the title secret as it may well haunt you too.
