Hello & Goodbye Granddad

Hello & Goodbye Granddad

A Poem by DEAN FARNELL

I was just a few months old
When my granddad passed away.
We could have shared a million words
Which we never got to say.
A baby in his arms
He held me tenderly.
My father wished i'd met him
But it was never meant to be.
A baby grandson can't recall
His fathers grief and pain.
Thank you for the photos
The stories all remain.
He was only in his 40s
When my treasured granddad left.
That baby still remembers
Though we never really met.

This is a good tale and a great idea. The meter is good and it holds its flow. My only issue:
Stanza 2: Your grandfather holds you as a babe and then it's stated your father wishes you met him--that's a technical contradiction which carries on again in the finale. I understand that was not exactly how you wanted the term "met" to be identified but it snapped me out of the moment. I wish there was a better term other than "met", "meet" that would nicely fit.
