England's Faithful Ravens

England's Faithful Ravens

A Poem by DEAN FARNELL

We can never leave here
The memories are past down
England's faithful Ravens
Protecting England's crown.

We've seen a history of terror
The corpses of those dead
Kings and Queens among them
Those who lost their heads.

Looking back we're sorry
For Lady Jane's high treason
As for pecking out both her eyes
There was no better reason.

We did all stand in silence
With the news of Anne Boleyn
Us ravens do have feelings
We keep them all within.

The six of us that stay here
Have legendary power
the history books will tell you
We can never leave the tower.

Enjoyed immensely. The ravens somehow symbolise the quintessential Englishness
Which is danger of getting lost in the multiracial society of today
