My Pet Bat

My Pet Bat

A Poem by DEAN FARNELL

Late last night, I was walking home
I had a feeling, I'm not alone
I saw a bat, just flying over
Then It landed, on my shoulder.

I stroked his head, he liked the fuss
We seemed to bond, the two of us
I kept him warm, I'm now his mum
My problems now, have just begun

He's a cute little bat, but a real nightmare
There's fleas and droppings, everywhere
I can't keep him In, I can't take him out
He likes to screech, and hang about.

I tried tonight night, to set him free
But the batty old fool, flew back to me
I decided to take him, to the vet
They said I'm sorry, but he's now a pet.

A bats no pet, the people say
What can I do, he want's to stay
He's now my friend, we can't be parted
Since our friendship, all first started.

As a special treat, I take him caving
The locals think, that I am raving
The dark and echo's, drive him crazy
I'm proud to say, he's now my baby.

I've tried so hard, to set him free
But the daft old sod, flies back to me
It seems he's now domesticated
If he left me now, I'd be devastated.
