Risk It AllA Poem by Dan in TSCMeet me at the top of the Ferris
Wheel Throwing caution to the wind To take in the view of what may be A horizon together worth racing
toward While your presence making my
heart race faster Screaming with fear inside; while gripping
your hand softly To mask the anxiety I feel whenever
I’m this close to you Hips and elbows ever so carelessly
touching An intimate moment forced upon us by
this wooden seat That holds us suspended forty feet
above the ground Just out of range to hear the
bustle and the noise of the midway A space just for us, just for a
moment The promise of an open-ended
future Tomorrows stretched out before us Sitting here in the sky, with the
daylight quietly dying All I want to do in this moment is
to risk it all To steal a kiss from the beauty
seated beside to me Before we slowly descend back to
earth Back to a reality where we carry
on in separate circles All fear of what might have been
vanishing as the safety arm opens Releasing us from each other’s
emotional proximity All hope dispatched as we are told
to “exit left” And the practicality of solid
ground beneath our feet returns The freedom of gliding through the
air All but forgotten in the instant
of reality Both of us having been unable to
take the littlest of risks To face the unknown Yet maybe, just maybe, One day our souls will be able to embrace
that feeling of floating Together Just above the crowds of the
everyday © 2023 Dan in TSC |
