Shoulders of the World

Shoulders of the World

A Poem by D Connolly
"

A ride on my dad's shoulders

"

Riding high on the shoulders of the World

I recall taking the plum from the tree

The sweetest flavor I can ever remember

Today I relish the memory

The sweetness of that day lingers still

Riding high on the shoulders of the World

Author's Note

D Connolly
Walking through the forests of Germany on a march with my dad, which we did often, I took a plum from a tree, just as described, and I remember that sweetness so well, 30+ years later. The sweetest part of the memory is being on my dad's shoulders and just being with him.

'Shoulders of the World'
D.Connolly,
High on the shoulders of your Daddy..what else could a little girl need?
The feeling is, "I am loved, I am wanted, needed and cherished.'
The sweetness of belonging and finding it delicious is matched by the
treat of a plumb while on the 'shoulders of the world' Your world.
Blessings,
Kathy

thank-you Poppy :)
A lovely sweet memory. I don't have those. Instead, I have the ones of uncles, and my dad cringing as he was always afraid we'd fall ....

I remember those rides as well. He carried me piggy back for a month after operations on both my feet when I was 16. He died a year later. Still miss him.

Thank-you Phoenix! I appreciate that :)
yup, that's how it works. we remember the special times with the ones we love. you were safe & secure and your world was happy. no one / nothing can take those special times away from us and we hold onto them in our hearts. i like this because it is from the gut/heart and full of love. those shoulders were the world to you. very beautiful thought.

Thank-you Pete, our parents are our worlds when we are younguns
The sweetest fruits in life are germinated from the lands of love. Up upon the cliffs of your father's pillarous garden, he cultivated the sweetest plum of them all. I enjoyed reading about your relationship with your dad. Thanks for sharing.

Thank-you Joe :)
Although I didn't pluck a plum, you did bring back a memory for me. Good memories like yours can make one young again even if only through thoughts.
