Soft Apples

Soft Apples

A Poem by D Connolly
"

disappointment abounds

"

There's many things in this world of ours

That make me cringe, and are so foul

But soft apples are at the top of my list today

Because they make me doubt all of my decisions

It's one thing to know before

That the apple is mediocre, and nothing more

But to entice me with a crisp shine on the outside

Only to find that the core is unappetizing

Is simply mean and uncalled for

"Soft Apples"
D.Connolly,
"But to entice me with a crisp shine on the outside only to find that the core is unappetizing
is simply man and uncalled for."
This one line was what caught my attention. How many times does someone come to hold a lovely fresh apple and bite into it with anticipation and find out the effort and hunger are now not to be satisfied properly? I think expectations are sometimes needed but we don't always find an expected end.
Your poem was so fun to read and analyze!

Lol D...I loved this because that has happened to me as well!!!!
It's like that with some people you meet too...
They seem so genuine and caring...
But their core turns out mushy and shallow..
Here's to crisp juicy apples and genuinely nice people!
Loved this poem

Gross!!! LOL
I like this. Smooth flow. Reads so well.
And the last 3 lines are just great.
How easily are we deceived...
By that crisp shine on the outside!
The world is becoming meaner every day.

This is very good.

I loved your comment Starzy..looking for a Pacific Rose..
I love cracking-hard ones the best...
But then, if one is looking for metaphors, I gues the 'gushy' ones suffice...
Nice poem!

Thank-you Terry
they don't even make for good apple sauce D... just a waist of a shiny red skin... they do however make for a good metaphor for the many disappointments we experience... all wrapped up in pretty colored paper only to find an empty box or worse a coiled snake ready to strike...

enjoyed reading and wishing you good apples inside and out.... ;0)

thank-you for the friendly wishes!!
Oh, that mushy apple in your mouth taste when you were expecting that which would make one drool with the exquisite flavor of it..........can apply literally, or that which we anticipate and then get "sour grapes".
Great analogy to give cause for the reader to think twice before stepping into a situation that might not be what is expected.
Now, where is that crisp apple I was eating? LOL

Thank-you for stopping by Sheila!
Love it.
This can be interpreted so many ways...but even it we take the words at their face value, this is a great piece...just says so much in those few words. Love the ending: simply mean and uncalled for. BOOM! LOL. Love it.

An excellent, masterfully apt metaphor--and, of course, work that also tends to put one on guard at the local supermarket.
Impressive.
