A New Buzz

A New Buzz

A Poem by D Connolly
"

Tattoos make me happy!

"

There once was a time when I was confused

I liked the buzz I got so I used

I used to feel up and I used to feel low

I used to get fast and I used to get slow

Once that all ended, I still wanted more

I saw the cool sign and walked through the door

The people in there were a dangerous crew

They had piercings and hair of green and of blue

But they seemed to be happy and I found its because

They found their pleasure in a different buzz

I sat in the chair and I started to sweat

And the man asked what I wanted to get

I said something lovely to describe my new life

And as he buzzed away, he talked of his children and wife

The pain wasn't pleasant, but I bravely endured

And once he was done, I felt unhindered

A beautiful portrait was forever mine

And it spoke of happiness and life's better times

I often go back and I find its because

I've found my pleasure in a new kind of buzz

This is pretty much what it's like going to a tattoo parlor, the descriptions are spot on. The way you flow your poetry dances through the words and add strength to the visuals and I like the underlying theme of rebirth.

I enjoy talking to the artists while having work done, most of them are pretty cool and have great stories to tell. Thank you for sharing.

D. Connolly,
I read your profile note and found many interesting facts and what your up to. Cool! Life can be busy but you are doing a good job of balancing.
Anyway your poem, "A New Buzz" was a reminder of the ways people try to place good into their lives. We all are so complex in how that good is processed. The "buzz" is actually like a strengthening factor and it is wonderful when we can find strengthening and hope to move forward and to endure. I feel that way sometimes. What I like about your poem is the commonality all people share of having pain and/or hard times. You have given a voice to the hope to move past and grow out of past days to a present shining! Love this................................Bless ya like always. Kathy

I feel so daft.
Right until I reached the A.N. I thought this was about going to the A.A. for the first time and the buzz from giving up an addiction.
I don't have any inks but I am open to the idea of marking my body for life with a beautiful work of art - sorry, with 'the right' work of art.
Im glad they keep giving for you.
Nicely penned.

Thank-you Zainul :)
Excellent story in a poem! I'm picturing the whole sequence of events. You've described a familiar journey for many, often written about, but yours sounds original becuz of your be-bopping rhyme & rhythm, reminiscent of bopping thru these experiences, & your honest is especially relatable. I would never get a tat becuz I already have constant pain (fibromyalgia) but I do enjoy watching tattoo artists on some of the TV reality shows like Ink Master. Your poem is sparkling with clarity.

What a beautiful poem.
When I made the decision to leave a 25+year marriage, I got a tattoo. WIthin 6 months of the finalized divorce...I got another. They were pivotal for me...one gave me courage, the other affirmation. What a beautiful tribute you pay to your journey...and to the love of skin art. Kudos!
