Opening Night

Opening Night

A Poem by DC Gentleman

Palms sweat..
Pulse screams thru vein
Silhouette of destiny
The goal
Comes into frame
Heart pounding
The cadence driving me insane
Seems like forever
This moment
This day
Lifetime on the sideline
My time to play
Day one of eternity
The crowds energy is palpable
Overwhelmed by the crush
But the show will go on
It must
Its in my hands
The power
The feel of the perfect curvature
Aroma of adrenaline
First chance
Must make it last
Hours perfecting this craft
People screaming my name
For the love of the game
Basketball is my art

Let’s do this..

I like how you made the intensity of the moment grow throughout the poem. It was very well structured. It was very original. You wrote in a way that allowed the reader to place themselves in your shoes...hightop basketball shoes in this case. Good read!

Awesome. As I began to read it, I thought your were speaking about opening night of a symphony, or a play. Nice ending. Good write.
