I'm Talking To You

I'm Talking To You

A Poem by DC Gentleman
"

Wake up call to a generation

"

I’m talking to you…

Don’t look at me like that
Your generation is soft
Not known for fighting back
Just for talking smack
Running away, and drive by killings
Endorsing violence ... black on black
I think Harriet would have derailed that railroad
If she knew how we would act.
You did get out to vote this year
There were so many nice Obama raps
Sadly... many voted simply because he was black
Understating his powerful impact

I’m talking to you…

Been thinking bout Martin’s dream lately
I guess that’s why it hurts
That so many women don’t recognize their worth
When I see my queens riding…
Back seat oral exercising
Shaking what mama gave ya
Garter belts full of ones and fives
Damn..
Maam , you are not enterprising
Just perpetuating a myth,
That a black women’s gift is in her hips
But the gift is their strength
One of many
Yet
Around poles you sliding…
Those lips and thighs
Pursuing fast highs
Addicted to the fast life
For the love of the cash… right?
Video vixen , what’s your ambition?

I’m talking to you..

Yes you… brother selling death to your neighbor
Always on the run, living and dying by the pager
An imaginary player
You’re not balling, because you’re not in the game
Just a victim of society, a new kind of slave

I’m talking to you…

Yes you brother, though I’m ashamed to call you kin
You surrounded yourself with books but never looked within
How many died for you to have the right to learn
Yet you sit in the quad rolling weed to burn
It’s supposed to be your turn
Time to take your rightful place in this world
But you’re smoking your life away
Disrespecting these girls

I’m talking to you…

You can be anything you want to be
Whatever you want to pursue
Martin Luther King had a dream
Creating a better place for me
And your whole crew
An honorable and reachable dream
I want you to have a dream too
Because seeing his dream come true
Starts with you

“Where there is no vision, people perish” – Proverbs 29:18
