Never Working OutA Story by ArchaicDreamerLove lives outside of all boundaries.
Tears stream down my face as he holds me at arms length. He looks me in my eyes.
'Do not worry, my love,' he says,' I shall be back and then we shall never be separated again.' That day I watched as he went to war and then again as he went abroad to work. I wept until I could weep no more. I had only one lifeline. His promise that when he got back we would never be apart again. That promise was never fulfilled. That was 40 years ago. He came back today. He came back in remarkably good condition. Hardly a scratch marring his body. We were all set to be married in the small, quaint church in the village nearby. I was wearing the most beautiful wedding gown. It was white silk with silver beading around the waist. Nothing compared to the beauty of the love we shared that day. It did not matter that we were old and withered or scarred from pain. We were completely and irrevocably in love. We were about to say our vows when it happened. It was swift and soundless. I saw a red stain appear on his suit directly over his heart. The bullet had gone straight through him. I wailed in despair. We had been away for to long to waste another minute apart. I grabbed the sharp knife from the wedding cake and slit my throat. We were never apart again. © 2014 ArchaicDreamer |
