Appropriately, Omar

Appropriately, Omar

A Poem by D. Gabrielle Jensen

Through thick and thin
And lesbian, skateboard stealing
Ex-girlfriends sleeping with best friends
Through Orange Crush
And Hot Pants
Screwdrivers,
Full bottles of 100 proof Schnaaps
And jack-asses who thought
They were cool enough to hang.

Through 20 hour road trips
Through break ups and
The ones we thought would be the ones.
My brother, we saw so much.
Saw each other through so much.

I wouldn’t have made it
Without you.
And now I’m not sure how I do.
Boy Meets World and
Elitest b*****d English professors
Who were the picture
Of your testimony that we were all
Pretentious a******s.
Good times
S**t times.
Drunk times.
Slightly less drunk times.
And now
A year.

No more late night talks
About nothing at all
The Jerry to my Elaine
Has moved on and found
A new life.
No more Superheroes,
No more Jubilee, to keep us up
Crying into our Jack.
No more Jack.
