The Coward's Depth

The Coward's Depth

A Poem by D.
"

poem about depression

"
Eyeing the water's vibrant surface, I dive inside.
For a moment, I feel my senses lapse as the water climbs into this broken body.
I see nothing, but obscured shapes and blurred lines.
I hear a slight ringing for the smallest of intervals, and then refractions, reverberations.
My body chills as I ascend to the surface, and the hairs on my neck raise.
I climb back up the cliff, feet aching but I feel a need to keep going.
Descending back into the water, it feels like this moment is trapped in time.
This is a peaceful oblivion. No emotions here.
No worries, no anxiety, no joy, no sadness
- just fuzzy vision and rendered hearing.
I ponder for a moment, what it feels like to have water -
Seep by the ounce, slowly and gracefully into each lung.
I swim down to the coward's depth.
My fate does not rest here.
