Part of my family comes from Beaufort, NC, home for a time to Captain Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard the Pirate. I was thinking of him as I read this. He met his bloody end at Ocracoke Island in 1718. The fight was every bit as exciting as the one described here, but his nemesis was the Royal Navy. The Buccaneers from Tampa Bay had not quite made it to the scene in those days.
Well I had been thinking along the lines of captain Jack Sparrow's adventures all the way until I remembered a particularly nasty sea crossing to the Scottish Isles on a ferry a few years back, where I made the mistake of going on deck and from the back of the boat watched the foam from the engines churn, which led me to churn and lose my lunch. I reckon it was to do with the thrombin of the engines that seemed to be reverberating the inside of my head, as I prayed to a god I didn't believe in for the safety of dry land.
It did put the fear into me and I haven't been to the islands since, which is the same reason I stopped climbing after I had a minor fall and the next time I climbed I realised I suddenly had a fear of heights, which is best not to be dangling from a rope hundreds of feet in the air, hanging on to a rock for dear life, frozen to the spot while doing so!
But hey, at least I know to stay on the ground where I belong now! 😃
I would so have been forced to walk the plank, which would be an adventure to little me, but not so much fun for older and not so wiser me!
You don't just describe it, you take us there on the pirate ship.
Their dialogues, the scenes are all very vivid.
"Hold it up to the sun when it rises make it shine." Loved the flair with which this line is written.
Overall, a very engaging and novel read. Loved it!
I just saw your own work on Writings On The Wall too! Congratulations! Wonderful work!
I absolutely loved the concept of this. You certainly know how to write an adventure. The imagery was wonderful as well and I hung onto each word and it made me really want to see more pirate themed poems. The whole thing was a blast to read and never got boring at all. The words you used were strong and perfectly fitting.
Great job!

Oh wonderful... The thrill, the saga, the flow... A buccaneer on his plundering journey. It reminds me of Johnny Depp in the ' pirates of the caribbean'... Though his looks only:)
You really know the pulse of thrill and how to use it very efficiently..... Really well penned
Your title caught my attention....as I 'swashbuckled' lol my way through your well penned poem...it kept my attention from start to finish and I was totally enthralled by the end of it.....very well written...you have a knack for talking pirate.... :)
