I Love You

I Love You

A Poem by Cynthia Jones

I love You

I hate the way you look at me

I hate the way you make me feel

I hate the way you protect me from the world

but

I love you

I hate the way I trust everything you say

I hate the way I need you

I hate how happy you make me

but

I love you

I hate the way I choose you over everyone else

I hate the way you smile after you kiss me

I hate the way your heart sounds when I lay my head on your chest

but

I love you

I hate the way your hand is bigger than mine

I hate the way your arm feels around my waist

I hate the soft way you kiss my hand

but

I love you

I hate that I became one of “those girls”

I hate that this song reminds me of you

I hate all the memories we’ve made

but

I love you

I hate that I’m so young

I hate that I keep hearing, “high school relationships don’t last”

I hate that I sometimes believe them

but

I am so in love with you
