Who am I Now That I am Not Myself?

Who am I Now That I am Not Myself?

A Poem by Cynical
"

For you are you, and shall always be you - so move with your motion and not that of another's deceit. A rather simple poetic piece that i was inspired to write today after reading The Red Wheelbarrow

"
They say my eyes are repairable
Like the monitors of a screen,
And I've waited a good while
To live that dream.
They say these plaques laced within my brain can be fixed
So long as they buy a new one
But I know it can't be me
If the photos and memories of my mind are none.
They say my missing limbs can be replaced
Just as the keys that rest upon your keyboard,
Yet I still cannot feel the tingle nor sensations,
Of its response to stimuli, forever ignored.
But why can't I just be me?
My mind, my eyes, my limbs,
They are rebranded - nothing like myself,
So why do people keep hoping they'll find
What they've replaced?

Author's Note

Cynical
And the specialties of one person exists in the way they express themselves by the difference of looks, the difference of vision, the difference of mind - each individual being represents a uniqueness - don't let the malice of others replace nor change that, for you are you and special for that reason.

What shall this mean to you?

A fine piece of writing.....

Your words are especially relevant in this age of Twitter, Trolls and online savagery. The people with the greatest courage in life are those who stand up against the status quo, stand upright and stern in the face of slings and arrows, always with poise and dignity and never give in to the savagery which they endure. These are the true champions of our species. Those who value themselves above all else and never need to be anything but comfortable in their own skin, no matter how flawed that skin may be. There are far too many who give up on who they are, all too ready to change what they look like, the person they are, the morals they hold dear, just to be falsely secure as part of a wayward flock. It is a sad indictment on our current societies when individuals feel the need to conform just to exist.

This is an inspired write, Cynical. I will have to read the piece that has inspired this one myself. A much different poem from your earlier writes, with your choice of simple structure and vocabulary contrasting with the depth and sincerity of the thoughts behind it.

Nicely conceived with a fine message for all of us readers contained within. Well Done.
