HecateA Poem by CynicalA poem crafted at the vivid memory of my rescue for a kitten named Hecate.
Moonlight bright in the heat of night,
Lay a kitten beneath homely fur, Placed temporarily in the sewers below, Not long before the afterglow, When images of purity, Now reminiscent memories of the past, Pushed her forward - long behold, Absence of a family to know. Without food without water, Unable to survive at only 4 weeks old, Heat dispersed between radiating waves, She continued to wait in silence, Without a mother without a home, Till daylight faded anew, Midnight's fierce chime abroad the darkened sky. Until the subpuscous clouds flurried away, Came an echo afar of distant travel, Out she crawled from beneath the sewers, Her voice a starched cry that flimsily huffed aloud, A crackled and hoarse mew that whined for help, Before she winced as people walked by, Continuance of vows so she proceeded to try. People stumbled upon her, Murmurs a-blur that startled poor Hecate, And so she crawled beneath the fumes, Back into the sewers that danced in an unforgiving gloom, Cries saturated the tempered sky, As people continued to round up and pry. They stood quaintly, Efforts weakened to shortage of time, Before they vanished to the engine a-roar, One remainder sat above - a meow in response to her frightful whines, The scent of food lay ahead followed by questionable mews, Divine temptation brought her to the food, licking cautiously till something grabbed her, With a faint hiss and then no more, Who were these people she sought to adore? © 2016 CynicalAuthor's Note
