The Empty PageA Poem by Cyndy Robinson
Lying flat on it back, a nothingless blank bit.
The brittle sheet enfolds smothering my brain. Splintered cheeks jeer and drive me insane, stark vacantness remains. Its a deception you see, that innocent white page is haunting me. Malevolently, I smash and fling its flimsy form only to confront the same visage reborn on the next sheet, It's tongue stuck out in glee! A desperate grab for the weapon of death, my black pen dueling blank emptiness. An army of words invade that plain, white page and I think myself free of its power to haunt me. Vision wavers, the paper cackles, black words wander colorlessly (shades of me) obliterating the perfect clarity of that pristine page of dull, blank white.
