O King of Sleep...

O King of Sleep...

A Poem by Less than Underground
"

A poem for a book unfinished

"

O king of sleep
O queen of night
Whose two ethereal bodies
Linger in our fleshy vessels
Whose spirits rest in our minds, dreams for to create

O dream of dreams
O liquid fleshy tome
Of no substance that can be grabbed
Made of that which falls apart in hands

O crimson elixir
O lifeless rhythm
The two whose music keeps the spirit calm
One sip of spirits that too long rest
And all the body comes to rest

O hand of dear precious love
O eyes of pallid lifelessness
Taken too soon from the world you loved
Too little was your ambition
Too late were your cries

O garish moon
O jealous stars
Who mock me
And scorn the path I tread
Who two together must fall as one

O fleeting strength
O quivering will
Fail me not
Ready my soul
As two an evil I destroy yet one must be I

O death
O death
You come to take me away
My dream to end in a lifeless symphony of the soul

O poison sky
O wrecked god moon
Your dreams end with mine

O white winged savior
O black winged persecutor
What words have I to thee
Who I have slain with mortal hands quickened by the gods

O the price
O the sum
To end the lives of angels
My body rests in a gentle pool of blood
My blood the price to make amends

O end
O end of dreams
Dreams that end where they began

O how sweetly she calls to me
The cold earth of my beginnings
