The Christmas CrazeA Poem by MazieThe quiet nights and sparkling lights are gold; Snow glitters in a spot of pale moonlight, While winds blow flakes about to ease the cold, And starry skies and Heaven's Eye are bright. But calm's soon rid; serene, the scene, now not, As fever falls upon the piling maze. What ales them? - No, 'tis not the cold nor cough That drives them to such craze; a childish faze. Forgot themselves upon the empty shelves, No time to spend with kin nor friend Or see the beauty that is "Winter’s Hell"; So sad what they cannot display nor send, And ev'ry year I ponder why it's all the same; A gift gave without heart is but a shame.
