She is returning

She is returning

A Poem by Wild Rose

She is returning

25 May 2022

11:26

She is returning to us

Her tapestry work is still untouched

"I don't feel like it now. Later maybe, tomorrow."

"there is some rhubarb in the garden; lets bake a pie."

Collect the rhubarb, clean and chop it,

Flour and fat all weighed out,

Made into a dough,

Cut out on a plate,

Pile on the cut fruit,

Rhubarb and chopped apple (Bramley),

Fit a pastry lid,

Holes to let the steam out,

In the oven to bake,

She has lost concentration,

I clean up, and remove the baked pie,

Oh she is colouring a picture.

"Is that pie ready yet."

She had forgotten about it,

"We will have to make some custard,

Do you know how to make it?"

So it goes, her eyes are brighter now,

Concentration lapses,

She forgets,

Short term,

Slowly, slowly,

She takes her tablets,

Each day,

She takes more control,

## sequel to Where have you gone to November 2020

Beginning to lose your memory is very difficult for anyone to bear; It seems that in this poem, the elderly in the family may have wandered out on her own and was returning home... and wanted to bake a rhubarb pie... to her dismay, she forgot to take it out of the oven on time...it seems that she takes some kind of tablets that may help her memory.... we all hope this doesn't happen to us, but we have no control...
Nice write about an important issue.

Yes the stress of lockdown could bring this on prematurely maybe it was her way of coping

A lovely poem shared my dear friend. The little things we did will be missed. I liked the many things you described in the poem. I like the need for the pie and thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

You are welcome my dear friend.
Baking pie or painting it,, this is a lovely beautiful poem. I think many needed calming chill pills in lowdown lockdown i guess. Kudos for a superb muse.!

Plz check out my two newest poems and also comment on one you prefer . Thanks,

the tablets are life savers...she can start to remember again the life she was forgetting...
I went through it with both parents...the short term memory shot...
each story a repeat, but I listened as if it were the first time, each time.
there is hope in this poem...and the spirit lifts.

Whether it's memory loss or depression, it is devastating to see a close relative struggling. It must be a joy if this is short-term and for them to begin to come out of that darkness and to remember some of the activities they once enjoyed. Slowly does it. Nicely conveyed Wild Rose and that pie sounds delicious. Have a good week- end.

Pleased to hear that :)
kind of bitter sweet ... i do hope for you Wild Rose, that it is not confessional .. my Ma suffered through Alzheimer's .. i felt blessed being able to take care of her in our home for most of it .. medicine and therapies abound and become more and more effective .. perhaps one day all the dementias will be a thing of the past .. those moments of clarity sparkle like gems in my thoughts of her .. your closing tends to make me believe that what ever the cause ... she is on the mend with a positive prognosis .. i do hope this is the case .. tough stuff Wild. :(

wonderful news sir! very happy for you all!
Hmm I read this and the first thing I thought of was of memory loss. This seems like she is suffering from maybe short term memory, and they are trying to revive her memory by doing so,etching that she probably loved doing before, such as baking a pie. It seems as if she gets better each day with the help of her pills, her memory is coming back. I haven't taken a look at "Where have you gone" which you said was the sequel to that poem. Maybe I'll have a look, this was an interesting poem, it makes me think that even in the most hopeless situations there will still be hope and one must wish for the best. Interesting poem indeed!
