A Windy Washing Day

A Windy Washing Day

A Windy Washing Day

17 May 2022

11:20

Clothes in the washing tub
All done

Scrub a scrub, poss. a poss.

Rinse a rinse. Squeeze a squeeze.

Hanging on the line.

Peg a peg.

Hanging on the line.

The washing comes alive.

Sheet;

Trousers, M & F;

Shirt and Blouse;

Handkerchief.

Blowing in the wind.

Sheet like a sail.

Driving a boat.

Perhaps a tea clipper

Bringing fresh picked tea leaves.

From India.

At high speed.

To our homes.

Trousers;

Legs entwined.

Dancing.

Like Fred Astir and Ginger Rodgers.

Legs untwine.

Off they go.

Race.

Across hill and vale.

Shirt and blouse

Like two lovers.

Arm in arm.

Off strolling together.

Handkerchiefs.

Waving.

Messages.

Prayers.

To a departing lover.

Off.

On a far away.

Journey.

This poem certainly made me smile. Clothes often do seem to have a life of their own when they are blowing about on a washing line. You let your imagination have free rein on this one, and the results are good! You brought the scene alive with vivid imagery. I enjoyed the read!

I'm continually amazed by just how clever we poets are, in the things that we write about and describe. An amazing job at describing something, seemingly, without thought. I love this Wild Rose. Well done!
Take care

i really enjoyed this clever little slice of whimsey about the every day task of laundry. My introduction to your work WR, but do believe I will be back again soon. By chance what day is laundry day? I love watching trousers misbehaving :)

Love here how your imagination goes into overdrive looking at the clothes blowing on the line. You brought back wash day at my grandmother's home. All that rub a dub dub. Soapy suds effort. She did own a mangle for the big squeeze :) Nice job Wild Rose.

This has some wonderful imagery. It was great fun to read as well. The imagination seems to be blowing as strongly as the breeze here. Delightful writing. F.
