The Snowdrops

The Snowdrops

A Poem by Wild Rose

The Snowdrops

The Snowdrops poke up their green shoots

From under the barren ground

A sign that new life is on its way

Slowly the bud tip

Grows and expands

Under the questionable

Protection of the trailing boughs of the

Weeping Japanese  Maple tree

Trailing; naked

Void of leaves or buds

They give little protection

From the bleak winter weather

Their white bed cap heads

Bend down

To protect the delicate stamens

From rain and snow

Through the winds and gales

They stand

For their short lives

They will return next year

The groups

Expanded by seed

Year on year

On the cusp of spring. A wintry picture but delightfully visual. You really made a nice job of the description here Wild Rose. Snow drops are such lovely little flowers, coming up in their clumps as the first signs of spring appear.Enjoyed the read. Thank you.

Snowdrops are always a welcome sight, when they appear. Delicate, yet hardy little things. Beauty in its purest and simplest form. An enjoyable read!

short lives but great while they last...and they give so much beauty...

If only trees could give better protection, maybe their lives would be longer.
nature keeps renewing...why are humans trying not to...
too much violence...and the maple trees can't protect us either...especially when the snow flies in our face.

A nice moment from nature captured here. But that all humans had such self preservation skills. Well done.

The last stanza makes it. More than a sum of its parts. Excellent visual poetry.

i was not familiar with either the snowdrops or weeping Japanese Maple ... they are both so cool .. i might just have to find a place for the Maple at least ... soil here in Stone County is mostly rocks as the name suggests. lovely Spring poem ... you must delight in having those species cohabitating nearby ... such a peaceful calming read for me sir.
