The Nurse (God bless them)

The Nurse (God bless them)

A Poem by Wild Rose

Having problems with my limbs

Doctors receptionist says “I will send up the practice nurse”

“No, I don’t want a practice nurse I want a fully trained nurse”

Car pulls up outside the door

No flashing lights or sirens

Lady alights and procedes to get dressed in a disguise

Green coveralls, green hat, plastic apron, face mask, eye protection

She looked like a Muslim woman in a green niquab

Is that so we cannot recognize her again?

Inside the house she put on rubber gloves

So that she would leave no finger prints

She proceeded by brining boxes of equipment, and pads of forms

Goodness have I all these form to fill in I thought

I never felt the needle go in

I saw the blood trickling out

Goodness I thought she is emptying my arm

Job done needles and bits and bobs put into plastic boxes

She left

Thank you, unidentified lady,

An angel in disguise

sheesh .. the title and closing belie the disconnected anonymous tone of the visit .. seems a cold hearted nurse ... i am a retired RN and so your title hooked me fast ;) and they are brave souls .. aren't in it for the money for sure :} i like the humor of your speaker seeing the visitor nurse through somewhat fearful eyes .. certainly we are all dealing with our fears during this troubled time ... you almost give us a crime scene ;)))))))))))))))) if this is confessional, Wild one, i do pray your good health ... heck .. i pray it anyway :)

Thank you for depicting the true humanity of a situation like this. Many applaud nurses & rightfully so, but sometimes in our fervor to give them credit where credit is due, the reality of these situations can sometimes go by the wayside. I love that you bring the "politically incorrect" reality of fearing the nurse to life with great descriptions that aren't too scary, but a little bit. Great balance of good to bad as far as showing the scene (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A gentle secret nurse. Didn't she greet you? Hello and goodbye. I enjoyed the story in the poem my friend. Poor nurses must face many new problems. They are heroes and the doctors, hospital workers. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

Would be a interesting day my friend.
what a beautiful tribute to those brave ones who are taking care of the sick and often coming down with the virus themselves...the risks they take...how many others would do the same.
I like the dialogue in this...

Well, it sure beats braving the covid affected at the local hospital. The nurse on demand is a fine idea to keep everyone safer. I am sure the blood taken will be picture perfect. Keep staying safe and well. :)

That's nursing for you in these troubled times. Angels clad in ppe putting the patient first. Aren't we lucky with our NHS? Ever grateful for those serving the community. A poem of the times Wild Rose. Take care of you and her indoors.
