We were isolated at home for several reasons

1 We are over 70 years old

2 We both have underlying medical problems

3 My problems require that I remain in the house until the problem is solved - I now have no immunity

I tried all the local home delivery services they were fully taken up for over a week

Our local supermarket only had special hours for NHS staff nothing for pensioners who were isolated with special requirements 

Our son called in for petrol, then asked at the shop if they had any bread "Yes how much do you want? The supermarket was sold out

Salad; fresh that day from a local market garden.

On return a neighbour asked had he got everything > Yes except tomatoes

His one time girl friend called did we want anything/ she was in a well stocked shop we gave her a list 

The local shop prices were either lower or just a fraction of the supermarket prices

Neighbours returned with some toms - no charge - we did a swap Toms for some face-masks

Now we know where our real friends are 

Oh and we save on fuel for shopping 

Girl friend is now back in favour

Well, this write just shows you what happens in a crisis; the milk of human kindness is often delivered from the most unlikely sources. The way many people are carrying on with panic hoarding and self preservation greed, it doesn't surprise me that your situation did occur. We humans are a selfish lot for the most part. At least in this case your story had a happy ending. Stay safe and well during your isolation. :)

I heard on a news program in the new year that this virus - like bad flue was on it way We normally keep about 2 weeks of food in stock > we used to live out of town & were cut off in winter . We stock up with non perishables, So I just bought a few extra items expecting possibly 2 or 3 weeks for the flue
Also I have just written a bit about a wartime childhood and that thet were told to stock up on non perishable foods (with a list from the "Ministry of Food") we but coffee & tea from the super mkt when the y have offers 2 for 1 etc.
No we were not panicking

My immunity is returning now I think awaiting blood test results

I saw Paris was completely locked down
Son is sent home to look after us > his department (County Council Highways) are distributing medication & equipment from a central store to the emergency medical centres - they have cars with flashers . normally for road closures now to be use for emergency deliveries across the county

I like this writing cause it's have simple but not naive description of daily life. A reader can feel your thoughts and words. Like whole complete picture .This ordinary routines makes this writing truthful and authentic .No big words need to be here. Just some thoughts and time to absorb own reflections. This little stories what you put in between. Make this piece full of empathy and humanity. But again that's just my very own intepretation .

Thanks I dont know those big words
My students were normal teenagers from the standard council schools - so big words were lost on them
Also what I taught was the nuts & bolts of their jobs

My wife always keeps a good stock of food in - It comes from country living with no shops on the door step
Having organised our supply chain (£ village shops & sons GF
We got a message last night - The manager at the super market (Morrisons) Will now accept telephone orders and make single deliveries > Mind I have put (or others have) my complaint on at least two social networking sites - with the store name
One super market yesterday was reported as queuing right round the outside of the store to gain entrance
